The Proprietors / Restoration

Willem Slippers is a native of Meyerton, South Africa (a suburb of Johannesburg). He has lived and worked in the United States as a farmhand in Lake View, Iowa since January 2005 and has a degree in mechanical operations. When asked why Willem came to the U.S., he answered “it was always a fun dream to live and work here for a bit”. Willem has two sons in South Africa, Quantan and Frederick, as well as many brothers, sisters, and extended family in the Johannesburg area. The house that was purchased in 2006 when Willem was in South Africa for a brief visit; he had never seen the house except through pictures prior to purchase! When asked how he feels about restoration work, Willem replied “We won’t be doing it again anytime soon”. Willem enjoys watching and playing rugby, biking, reading the newspaper, and keeping his wife away from more properties to restore.

Kimberly Imwiehe is a native of Breda, Iowa and has lived and traveled extensively in Europe before coming back to her hometown. When asked about restoration she said, "It was crazy, but worth it. We learned a lot. ” Kimberly has her Masters in Glass with a specialty in casting and is in the process of converting the garage to a glass studio. She has exhibited artworks throughout Europe and loves biking, reading, cooking, going camping, and finding historical properties to restore.

Kimberly and Willem live on site and have two adorable, “ferocious” puppies, Mr. Buster and Mr. Jax., who like to think that they guard the property.
